Legacy Lineup

Preserving Our Legacy

Our passion for trucks extends far beyond the vehicles currently working in the field. As part of our Legacy Lineup, we have carefully preserved and restored historic vehicles that represent important chapters in our company's story. Among these are a fully restored 1962 Mack B-813SX tandem axle dump truck, modeled after the original truck used by founder John McGowan Sr. when he started the company in 1928, and a classic Power Wagon that reflects the rugged equipment relied upon during the company's early years.

These vehicles are more than restored trucks—they are rolling reminders of the generations of hard work, determination, and craftsmanship that built John McGowan & Sons into what it is today.

Our restored Mack has become a symbol of both our history and our connection to the community. The Mack legacy truck has proudly participated in local events, including the Glen Cove St. Patrick's Day Parade, where it serves as a moving tribute to our company's nearly century-long presence on Long Island. It is easy to imagine John McGowan Sr. taking immense pride in seeing the truck celebrated by the community, especially considering his own deep involvement in local traditions. In 1969, John McGowan Sr. served as Grand Marshal of the Hempstead St. Patrick's Day Parade, reflecting a commitment to community that remains a core part of our company culture today.

The significance of this truck extends beyond our fleet. Its craftsmanship, historical accuracy, and unique place in our company's story led to the commissioning of a professionally produced 1:50 scale die-cast replica by Heavy Haul Replicas. The model was developed to replicate our 1962 Mack B-813SX tandem axle dump truck and captures the authentic details and appearance of the original vehicle.

For us, these legacy vehicles are not simply collector pieces or display items. They serve as tangible links between our past and present—honoring the equipment that helped build our company while inspiring future generations to carry forward the same values of hard work, pride, quality, and craftsmanship that have defined John McGowan & Sons since 1928.
